Tour: Historical Old Town
Explore Görlitz with this tour and discover the many facets and dynamic history of the town. Hear how the trade and the “Via Regia” or Royal Highway shaped the history of Görlitz. Discover the meaning and history of many sacred and secular buildings of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque epochs.
You will get unexpected insights in the history and the lives of the inhabitants of Görlitz through the ages. You will hear of the enormous wealth of the merchants; of the woad and cloth trade, the unique hall houses, the tradition of beer brewing, the interest in sciences and much more.
This tour is also suitable for families with children. There are a small quiz and many interesting stories for the children.

Extensions
It is possible to prolong tour 1 or 2 with one or more of the following elements:
Extension 1: Schönhof
A short visit to the “Schönhof”, the renaissance building of the Silesian Museum, one of the oldest renaissance houses of Germany and a short visit inside one of the famous Hall houses of Görlitz (which is normally closed to public). In this visit you can experience something of the life of the rich merchants in the renaissance time.
Duration: 30 minutes extra.
Additional costs: € 20,00 + € 1.50 extra per person, to be paid to the museum.
This tour is only possible during the opening hours: Tuesday – Friday, 10am – 5 pm.
Extension 2: Churches
An extensive visit to one or two of the historical churches in Görlitz with its rich history and cultural heritage:
- St. Peter’s Church
- Holy Trinity Church (former Franciscan Church)
- Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche)
Especially worth seeing is the world famous and unique Sun Organ in the St. Peter’s Church and the golden altar in the Holy Trinity Church.
Duration: 30 Minutes or more extra, depending upon your wishes.
Additional costs: € 20,00 for each extra 30 minutes + € 0.50 extra per person as admission to each church.
Only possible during the opening hours of the churches.
Extension 3: Museum
Görlitz has several very interesting museums: the Görlitz cultural historical collections (Görlitzer Sammlungen) and the Silesian Museum. Combine your guided tour with a guided tour in one of these museums.
