Guided tour through the Zwinger

with the Old Masters Picture Gallery


NB: because currently archaeological work is done in the Zwinger  this tour will not be offered until 2024.

 

The Zwinger was built in the 18th century as a baroque festivities architecture and is unique in the world. It was a place of lavish celebrations and a scene of the splendor of Augustus II the Strong.

In this guided tour, immerse yourself in the world of Dresden baroque court culture and get to know the Zwinger in depth. We go through the whole Zwinger, with the Crown Gate, Wall Pavilion, and th Nymph’s Bath. You will hear a lot of interesting facts about the architecture and sculpture as well as about the history and stories associated with the Zwinger. You will also learn a lot about the construction and history of the Semper Gallery, one of the first museum buildings in the world. Afterwards you will see the Zwinger with different eyes and also understand the baroque culture a little better.

Afterwards (or alternatively before) we will visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Semper Gallery – the last extension of the Zwinger, where you will get to know the works of art better (more information here).


Duration: approx. 3 hours (extension is possible).

Price: € 200 plus admission tickets for the art gallery.


  • Prices do not include the one-time guiding fee (€ 25,-) and entrance tickets.
  • As guided group tours are to be announced in advance,    I request a timely booking.
  • This tour is only available during the opening hours of the museum possible.
  • Maximum group size: 20 people.
